What is the difference between OVH Public Cloud and OVH Dedicated Cloud?
OVH Public Cloud offers guaranteed and constant resources on high performance shared infrastructures. Customers are billed for their usage (hourly or monthly) to cater for sporadic and highly variable activity.
OVH Dedicated Cloud offers customers dedicated virtual resources on fully dedicated infrastructures, providing an additional layer of security. OVH Dedicated Cloud can be used to create a hybrid cloud architecture and can be adapted to a wider range of professional uses.
How do I get a Public Cloud server?
Via the OVH Control Panel. You don't need to do anything on our website; you just need a username and password to activate your Public Cloud servers straightaway. You will be billed at a later date for your usage.
Which payment methods can I use to pay for OVH Public Cloud and how is the service billed?
You can choose from the payment methods available at OVH: automatic payment, bank card, Paypal, bank transfer. You will need to register your payment method when you activate your first instance. You will soon be able to pay by cheque, postal order or via a prepaid account.
You will be billed for resources used during the previous month between day 1 and 5 of every month. If you choose to pay monthly, you will be billed for the month that has just begun and any additional, unpaid resources carried over from the previous month, such as instances and object storage. If you switch to monthly billing throughout the course of the month, you will be billed immediately for the amount due for the current month, calculated on a pro-rata basis.
You will be billed for instances until you delete them in the OVH Control Panel.
How do I optimise my Public Cloud server costs?
Monthly billing lets you optimise your costs if you have more long-term projects: you can save up to 50%. Either select monthly billing when you create your instance, or switch over during the month.
You can track your usage more precisely thanks to projections obtained from the history of your previous usage. You also have the option to be billed per project or per cluster of Public Cloud servers so you can easily reinvioice your within your company if necessary.
With OVH Public Cloud, do I pay for incoming and outgoing bandwidth?
Absolutely not. Incoming and outgoing bandwidth is totally free with OVH Public Cloud.
What are the benefits of Cloud credit?
Cloud credit is available to users who want to pay only for a specific cloud project. Ideal for projects with a foreseeable lifespan, or for companies who are concerned with planning ahead for their expenses.
Just like an instance or a container, buying cloud credit generates an invoice. Once your project has been credited, all invoices associates to it will be collected on a priority basis using the available cloud credit.
What disk performance do you offer with your Public Cloud Servers?
OVH guarantees up to 500 IOPS for VPS instances and up to 1000 IOPS for CPU and RAM instances. As for additional drives, their performance level goes up to 250 IOPS for Classic drives and up to 3,000 IOPS for High Speed drives.

What level of network throughput does OVH Public Cloud offer?
OVH guarantees 250 Mbps bandwidth for the CPU and RAM instances with a maximum of 4 vCores, and 500 Mbps for those with more than 4 cores. VPS instances offer up to 100 Mbps bandwidth.
What is the best way to store files in OVH Public Cloud?
With OVH Object Storage you can store and retrieve all different file types. You can transfer files with a simple http(s) request in the Control Panel. You pay for storage and ourgoing traffic per gigabyte, at the lowest prices on the market.
How do I add or remove instances?
You can activate or deactivate a Public Cloud instance at any time, or even add a new one to your existing machines. You can this in the Control Panel, so you don't need to order or cancel anything. You will be able to upgrade your instances
Can I personalise my Public Cloud servers?
You have root access to each Public Cloud server which you select. All setups and software configurations are therefore your responsibility. As for the hardware, you have a choice of ten models of Public Cloud servers. You can also add more disk space and geolocated IPs from your customer account

In which datacentres can I choose to host my Public Cloud servers?
Our French datacentres in Strasbourg and Gravelines and our North American datacentre in Beauharnois are all operational and ready to host your Public Cloud servers.
How do I manage my Public Cloud servers?
The Control Panel lets you not only activate and configure your instances, but also manage them via an SSH key . You also have access to the OVH API and the OpenStack Horizon API , both of which you can use to automate any actions.
You can also manage multiple projects using Public Cloud servers by delegating permissions to your users (admin, technical, customer etc.). You also get supervisory, restart or rescue mode functions directly from your OVH customer account.
Is it possible to back up my Public Cloud servers?
You can take snapshots of your instances at any time. There's no limit to the amount you can take.
What level of SLA does OVH Public Cloud offer?
OVH Public Cloud guarantees 99.999% SLA for all available resources. Where the support team detects a lost connection that isn't caused by scheduled maintenance, you will receive damages of 0.5% of the monthly rate per minute of unavailability (up to a maximum of 100% of your consumption for the current month).
Can I install Windows licences on Public Cloud servers?
Yes, you can choose to start a Windows instance from your OVH Control Panel, or to install the Windows image of your choice from your Horizon interface. There will be no extra charge to access the operating system and the Windows licence.
In order to make the rates for our Windows instanes more simple and easier to read, the price difference with our Linux instances can be accessed through our product pages, simply by clicking on the "Make your choice" button.
Do the volumes have an overall IOps limit, or is there a specific limit for each volume?
Each volume has its own IOps limit. In addition, there is also an overall flavor limit (which varies according to the size) and which is itself valid for the instance's total IOps.
Can you configure security groups from the control panel?
No, you can only configure security groups from the GUI OpenStack (Horizon) and CLI for the time being.
Can you resize a volume dynamically while continuing to write on the disk?
No, you must detach a volume before enlarging it.
Is there a maximum number of additional volumes that you can attach to each instance?
Yes, the limit is 26 additional volumes.
Can you resize an instance's CPU or RAM while it is running?
No, to change the flavor you have to restart the server.
Can you add a local SSD volume to an instance?
No, the additional volumes must be external Ceph volumes.
Can you mount an additional volume on several servers at the same time?
No, this feature is still in development on OpenStack, it will be available in the next versions.
How can I get help to install and configure my Public Cloud servers?
Contact the OVH support team by creating a ticket in the control panel. Click 'Support' then 'New ticket'. You can escalate your request by ticking the box at the bottom of the ticket form. Our teams are available Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm.
