What is OVHcloud Link Aggregation?

With the OVHcloud Link Aggregation feature, you will get continuous uptime for your services and a very high bandwidth network for critical applications and distributed infrastructures.
This technology is exclusive to the world of bare metal. You can use it to create a high-availability infrastructure with up to 10 Gbit/s* of bandwidth between servers.
You can sign up to and enable this option via the OVH Control Panel in just a few clicks, to boost your server’s availability.

OVHcloud Link Aggregation (OLA) technology was designed by our teams to increase the availability of dedicated servers that host critical applications. Redundancy mechanisms have existed for a number of years, and are implemented on most network infrastructures. But these are limited at an active element level, i.e. switches. We have chosen to go even further, and extend this redundancy mechanism to your dedicated servers.

By setting the function to nominal and enabling OLA, your bandwidth will be redundant. By default, you will have two 2Gbit/s links on the vRack private network.

Enabling the OLA feature automatically isolates your dedicated server from the public network, meaning that it cannot be accessed publicly via the internet.

How does it work?

Once you have enabled this option on your server, you can group your two network links (public and private) into a single link. You automatically get a redundant virtual private link that is very high-frequency. Your server will also be completely isolated from the public network, blocking any attempts to connect via the internet as a result. By setting the function to nominal, you can use the two network links to transfer your data between servers. If one of the two links goes down, traffic is automatically redirected to the functioning link without any service interruptions. This means that your users won’t experience any downtime.
