What is a domain transfer?

Transfer is a change of a registrar (company which is entitled to register and manage domains).

Transfer price includes a registration fee for a year and for a time that was left at your current provider.
Who may order a domain transfer?
Transfer may only be requested by the owner of a domain. If the transfer application is put forward by someone else, it is automatically rejected.

Why is it worth to transfer a domain to OVH?

• To limit the number of necessary actions required to transfer a domain. You don't have to renew your domain at one ISP and the hosting service at another
• To have direct access to managed domains.

How is the transfer conducted?

Transfer requires 3 steps:

• First step - a request for confirmation is sent to all contacts indicated in whois database. It may last up to 5 days.
• Second step - Check of the domain status. The domain must have an ACTIVE status in whois.
• Third step - Send a transfer request to your registrar. To avoid frequent refusals, we encourage you to contact your former provider beforehand.

Special conditions

Conditions for .fr and .be registration
A transfer for a .fr is a bit different: there is no request by mail but the owner remains the same. Only an agreement from the previous registrar will be requested. Therefore, you have to request from your previous registrar what their procedure is in order for them to accept the transfer without any problem.

Conditions to fulfil for successful transfer:

• Your domain cannot expire;
• Your domain has been registered for 60 days / or was renewed at least 45 days ago;
• Contact emails in whois are correct;
• Contacts in whois, especially the owner, have been informed about transfer;
• Expiry date is less than 60 days (condition for some registrars. Contact your provider for further information).

If the transfer was rejected for some reasons (except OVH mistake), the transfer fee isn't refund. It is a result of our intervention in the transfer procedure and launching an inquiry about domain renewal and verification.

For .be, Dns.be sends an email to the domain's owner for the agreement of the transfer.
