The Microsoft Hyper-V Server R2 distribution is a bare-metal (or native) virtualisation distribution.
This distribution is delivered raw and can fully exploit the Microsoft hypervisor. It's possible to use Linux and Microsoft systems. Hyper-V Server R2 has the advantage of offering various free features like "Host Clustering" or "Live Migration". This distribution is well suited for server consolidation, development of specific infrastructures or VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure or desktop virtualisation). A computer with Vista, 7 or Server 2008 is required to take full advantage of Hyper-V remote management tools.
